Moby Dickie

Darwin's theory of evolution teaches us that the drum kit is the one instrument that links man with ape-man.

Most drummers take up the instrument to drown out the voices in their heads.

Bear Driver drummer Dickie Harwood is no exception.

Can you tell what the voices are trying to tell him in the clip below?

Bear Driver's debut album Street Legal will be out, I don't know, some time in the new year, maybe.

In the Studio

When recording is complete the album is placed in a can until the release date. The size of the can depends on how many instruments were used during recording. To record our debut album we used 33 instruments. Here is the proof...
Bear Driver's debut album Nashville Skyline is in the can and will be out soon enough.

The Lakes

So, we went up to the Lake District to rehearse for the album. It's all coming along nicely. One day soon, you'll be able to hear it.

This is where we rehearsed.

Behind The Music... Episode II

Everywhere I go people keep asking me how we manage to make a small pop group sound like a whole orchestra on hits such as Jenny and those other songs that we done.

To which I smile coyly and say 'would David Copperman reveal the secrets of his magic show? Would Jamie Ollivers reveal the ingredients of his tastiest pie? Would a murderer reveal the whereabouts of his latest victim? Some things are best left unknown...'

But the incessant questioning has worn me down, so here is a short film that will hopefully reveal all...

Ninth Life Theatre Company

Some good friends of ours are taking a play they've written up to Edinburgh Festival in August. It's called 'The Questionnaire' and you should definitely go and see it if you're going to be there. Details of the play are up on their website. Ninth Life Theatre Company

It sure is a costly thing trying to take a play up to Edinburgh so they've organised a fundraiser at The Silver Bullet and guess what? We're playing it! Cool, huh? So you should come down and see us, Jamie Ley and two very special guests. They're so special that we're not even allowed to tell anyone who they are. It's this Sunday, 24th, and all money raised from the door will go towards sending their play up to Edinburgh.

Cats!

So, here's a new demo for you. It's called Cats. It was written in a dark room that had boarded up windows somewhere in the middle of the Lake District. I think this .gif aptly describes the sentiment of this song.

In other news we're busy writing lots of new songs, and then trying to learn how to play these songs so that we might, one day soon, record an album. We'll keep you posted with any further developments.

Brainlove Festival

We played Brainlove Festival the other week. Napoleon III and David Thomas Broughton were particulary enjoyable! There's a review up on Amelia's Magazine, which is where I found these beautiful drawings of our show!

Holland, 1945 (Den Haag).

So, a couple of weeks have passed since we actually went to Holland to play the marvellous Walk The Line Festival but I thought I might as well stick the photos up here to prove that we did in fact go (in case all of you peeps were doubting on us!).

To the right of the hipster hat you can see the White Cliffs of Dover

"Yes, that's right Jon, this boat will take us all the way to France."

Beers, buddies and bears.

Getting psyched for the show!

Obligatory blurry shot of Harry.

Gig time.

The lovely Dutch people helped us load our new awesome favourite gear moving device. They even helped us push it back to the hotel room!

We were all pretty freaked out by the spooky pepper just lying in the corridor of the hotel (except Joe, but that's another story for another time).

Our tour bus.

Waiting for Willy Wonka to give us our chocolate.

Chortle! Chortle!

Goodbye Holland.

Koko

We played Koko the other night supporting The Joy Formidable. It was a whole lot of fun and definitely the biggest show we've played.
